1W43.01_I am currently living a non digital life…
… and I am really enjoying my time beeing offline and beeing without most of my digital devices. I am a little behind my research for my project – but actually I do my own personal research. My digital communication behavior has changed in the last 2 months. I try not to spent to much time in front of the computer – just for work, to answer some emails and check up my facebook account. I try to be more focused on the personal communication – to interact face 2 face with friends, colleagues and people.
It’s some weeks ago that I started my new job – which I really love and enjoy! My brain is full with new information and new impressions, that it makes it really hard to be focused on my studies. But I hope that I will find some time to restart my research soon.

In the late 80th, young people of the streets of tokio started to communicate via pager with number codes. For almost every emotion they had a number code. One of it was 3-3-4-1 // sa-mi-shi-i , which means “I feel lonely”. This descibes the feeling of many kids in japan today. A society that stands for one of the richest and highly developed countries on earth. It must be the background of the lifestyle that the numbers of suicide is increasing during the last years. In 2003 more than 34000 japanese people commited suicide – 7% more than the year before. Experts believe that one of the reasons is the economical pressure of daily life. The resigned Premier Minister Junichiro Koizuni said that the government in Japan will work on better conditions.
1W27.01_Feedback Mid Point Review
Last weeks Mid Point Review was a great experience. It was pretty tough not to contribute the discussion.
It was interesting to see that most of us are caught in the digital world, addicted to emails, crackberries or social network platforms – especially we all are coming from different countries. Our daily behaviour has changed and it seems and proves that it is really hard to escape from our own digital communication behaviour. A very sneaky process but with such a deep impact of all of us!
I also got very interesting links and ideas for my upcoming research. I liked Hassens idea of the 24 hour brainwave of a person or a blood pressure monitor.
The next steps for my research will be to observe my own digital behaviour. Pretty scary 
!
1W21.01_Structures
After beeing clearer about the final work of my project I felt it easier for me to restart my research process.
I will split my project into 3 sections.
1. proposal focus – digital communication behaviour in business and personal life and the mental and social effects to society
- mobile phones
- social-networks
2. technical skills
- improving my photoshop & illustrator skills
- learn premiere / Final Cut Express
- learn After Effects / Cinema 4D
3. Final Project
- Writing a screenplay
- Produce a storyboard
- Film
- Edit the Footage with sound, effects & photographs
I already did lots of reading for my project – but from time to time I felt a bit lost with all the information. While I do the reading process I need to write more down the main information – and not safe them only in my brain. I hope that with this structure I feel a bit more comfortable.
So, my this week task will be reading the book “grown up digital” by don tapscott.

My this week task is to read the Book of Digital Art by Christiane Paul. I already read a few pages and it already gave me a few inspirations for my project.
1W18.02_The future privacy of Dave…
For my research process I have bookmarked a view websites and blogs. One is the Blog from Miriam Meckel, who holds a professorship for Corporate Communication at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
She is researching the communication behaviour and developments in our “digital” society. Her newest post was a selfmade video. Really impressive, very scary and creepy. When I saw the video the first time, it reminded me to the book “1984″ from George Orwell. It is really hard to accept that we are already living in a glassy world and can’t escape from it.

1W12.01_Digital World…
The last days just went by. I was pretty busy with work and christmas preparations. I really don’t know why it is always getting hectic at the end of the year 
.
But anyway, I really enjoyed our last chat session. It was very inspiring and afterwards I was surfing around the web to get more information about processing and open frameworks. It is amazing what possibilities you have with the software. The worst part is to learn programming – which is not my favoured task. But I would really like to learn it and will concentrate myself for next year. But before that I need to learn more about video editing – which is more importent for me at the moment. Yesterday I worked a bit with Final Cut Express – to get more comfortable with the technique, the effects etc. It was fun and I feel I get more and more into it.
For my research process I bought a new book called “grown up digital” – It is a book about the net generation and the future. It is amazing that we are surrounded by digital environment and use it so naturally. I can remember when we had our first TV in black and white – with just 4 tv channels, my first mobile phone – which looked huge like a bone and my first computer with just a hard disk of 512 MB. And then a couple of years later came the Internet – which opened us a completely new world to explore. So our generation learned step by step to use the technologies and get into the new digital world. But what about the younger generation? They grow up with it so naturally. They don’t know how it was without mobile phones, text messages, emails, internet and social networking. The social life of the younger generation is so different of my generation because the communication process has changed a lot. Everything is becoming more and more digital and less personal. It will be very exciting to read more about that subject in the book.
Ahh, before I forget – I found a very interesting website from audi, with interactive parts. I think it is an amazing work to explain and visualize technology of a car… just check it out – hope you like it as much as I do.

1W11_Decision…
The last 2 weeks I spent a lot of time by reading books to get clear about the focus of my project. I finally decided to set the focus on digital communication and the mental and social effects.
I think this project concerns everybody, and everyone could ask himself how his behaviour with digital communication is. During the reading I got scared a bit, cause I could see how much digital communication could dictate our daily life.
For example… A year ago I moved into my new office. I requested a telephone and Internet access 6 weeks before I moved into my new office. I knew that the telecommunication companies don’t work as fast as we want . So I moved into my new office and of course my telephone and Internet wasn’t running. At the same time my computer crashed – not the best moment cause I had a few project deadlines. It was a really crazy situation and it made me clear, that it is not good just having importent data on your computer. Luckily I had a Back Up on an external hard drive. But I ended up calling each client to tell them I am just reachable on my mobile phone. It took me a while to do that – if I had internet access it just would be one eMail to all of my clients. The interesting part was, that most of my clients where happy to have a personal conversation via phone. To many times we just use eMails to communicate. The personal aspect gets more and more lost but I hope this aspect will change in the future…
